Description
The flowering plant species Ficus lyrata, also referred to as the fiddle-leaf fig, is a member of the Moraceae mulberry and fig family. It grows in lowland tropical rainforest in western Africa, from Cameroon west to Sierra Leone. It can reach heights of 12–15 meters.
The leaves can range in size from up to 45 cm (18 in) long and 30 cm (12 in) wide (though they are typically smaller), with a leathery texture, prominent veins, and a wavy margin. They frequently have a broad apex and narrow middle, resembling a lyre or fiddle.
The fruit is a green fig with a diameter of 2.5–3 cm (1-1/4 in).
